  • May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth! At Habitat, we understand that a decent, affordable place to call home is critical for physical and mental health. Research shows that households with low incomes move more frequently, often due to foreclosures, evictions, or the need for cheaper housing. These involuntary moves and increasing housing costs can have detrimental effects on mental health and self-reported health outcomes. Frequent moves are associated with: 🔹Declining mental health 🔹Higher suicide rates 🔹Postponing medical services due to financial reasons 🔹Nonadherence to healthcare and prescription advice Furthermore, children who experience multiple moves within a short period are more likely to suffer from chronic conditions compared to those who have stable housing, which provides the foundation for good health and well-being. 💚 Together, we build homes, communities and hope so everyone has the opportunity to thrive. • What an incredible week it's been leading up to Mother's Day here at Habitat! We celebrated the strength and perseverance of motherhood in two notable events. On Thursday, we had a home dedication ceremony for four remarkable women in our Journey Together neighborhood: India, Promesas, Beth, and Morghan. Three out of these four households are led by single mothers, showcasing their resilience and determination on the journey to homeownership. Their stories inspire us and remind us of the power of perseverance and community. 🏘 Then this morning, our incredible Women Build supporters came together for a heartwarming Blessing and Build event. They blessed the home of future homeowner Melissa with prayers and well-wishes. Then, they rolled up their sleeves and worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Melissa to paint the interior and exterior of the home. 💪 To all the mothers, single mothers, and mother figures out there: Happy Mother's Day! 💐💚

  • Like many other families in the area, Debra's home in Cape Coral was damaged by Hurricane Ian. Through our Hurricane Recovery Home Repair Program, we were able to help her with critical repairs, from fixing the roof to addressing water damage inside and repairing gutters and downspouts. Thank you to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy for your generous support of long-term recovery efforts in Lee County! Because of your help, we were able to repair Debra's home and four additional homes for families in our community. Together, we're restoring homes to a safe and whole condition, ensuring protection against future disasters. 💚 👉 Learn more about our Hurricane Recovery Home Repair Program: https://lnkd.in/ezs73g3R

  • Future homeowners Janice and single mom Misleidys have been stretching every dollar to make ends meet. But brighter days are ahead! Recently, they worked alongside volunteers from Florida Blue to raise the walls of their future homes in Lehigh Acres. Having an affordable place to call home will allow both Janice and Misleidys to focus on creating a stable life for their families. Thank you, Florida Blue Foundation, for sponsoring Janice and Misleidys' homes! Together, we are building strong and healthy communities. 🏘️💚

  • This #NationalVolunteerWeek, we gathered to honor the incredible volunteers who power Habitat's mission. At our annual Volunteer Appreciation event on April 25th, we celebrated that nearly 2,600 volunteers have contributed over 43,500 hours so far this year! Whether swinging hammers on our construction sites, staffing our ReStores, assisting with administrative tasks, or providing governance as board members, our volunteers are the heart of Habitat. Their dedication helps build strength, stability, and self-reliance for families in need of decent, affordable housing. Thank you, Habitat volunteers! Your service builds hope, homes, and brighter futures. 🙏 💚 Learn more about volunteering with Habitat: https://lnkd.in/ewgkDbR6

  • For Habitat supporter Karina Borgia-Lacroix, pledging to be a #WomenBuild SuperWoman was an easy choice. But when she brought her ten-year-old son, Levi, to the February Women Build 2024 Kickoff Party, she had no idea he would become a SuperMan—pledging to give a $250 yearly donation for five years. "At the event, I learned that some people can't afford regular homes, and that made me sad," Levi explained. "I thought about how it could be kids from my school who are struggling, but they don't always talk about it. So, I wanted to help them and their families by giving money to Women Build." Levi's commitment to giving back made history as he became the youngest SuperMan and continuous donor in Habitat's history! 🦸♂️ "Helping others is something I want to keep doing for as long as I can, and I really do like having the SuperMan name," Levi said. "That's so much fun; it's like I have a superpower now." 👉Read the full story and learn more about becoming a Women Build SuperPerson: https://lnkd.in/eHYm25Dw

  • Yesterday, we raised the walls of the first two homes in Habitat’s Carolina Cove neighborhood, our newest affordable housing community being built in Bonita Springs! Sponsoring the homes, residents and volunteers of the Pelican Landing and The Colony community assisted in building and raising the walls alongside the future homeowners, Nathan and Arezki. Conveniently located near downtown, the HOA-managed neighborhood will feature seven attached twin-villa homes for 14 future families. The multi-family units will help us meet the critical need for decent, affordable housing in Bonita Springs. 🏘 Learn more about our Carolina Cove neighborhood 👉 https://lnkd.in/ec4G9935
